The Awards Scheme and Nomination process

Launched in 1997 with its primary functions being to raise awareness of disabled access issues and at the same time to reward businesses and service providers that had voluntarily made adjustments to their buildings or service provision.

The Scheme is advertised in the local newspapers setting out its background and ethos, requesting nominations for an award. Nominations can be made via telephone, post or e-mail. Nominees are then subject to scrutiny by way of site visits by Group Members skilled in access audit techniques.

Awards are presented at various high profile venues and attended by leading local dignitaries along with members of the press.

It has, over the years, been our singularly most successful event by way of the widespread publicity it receives, heightening the profile and work of the Group.

It is our intention, subject to funding, to produce a detailed ‘guide’ of Award Winners and the goods or services they provide.

This years' awards ceremony was held in the Llanelli Town Council Offices and was very well attended.
